FAQ

  • What are your products made of? What is Jesmonite?
Items we make in our studio are made of Jesmonite. Jesmonite is a highly versatile, eco-friendly, water based composite that does not contain any solvents and VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) regular resins. It is durable and lightweight material that is used in a wide range of applications in the construction, architectural and art industries. Jesmonite is castable, which means it can be poured into molds to create objects of any shape or size. Finished product feels similar to concrete and ceramic. Surface is generally smooth, sometimes with a few air bubbles and irregularities, which are part of its unique characteristics. Its inherent ability to simulate natural materials and its versatility, strength and durability make it an ideal choice for a wide range of projects and design applications. Jesmonite was invented in the United Kingdom in 1984 by Peter Hawkins. It was previously popular in the construction industry, primarily for the creation of high-quality surface materials, but it is now popular among artists, architects, and DIY crafters.
